The Department of Speech and Hearing Science (http://shs.illinois.edu) is seeking to recruit an outstanding candidate with expertise in audiology and/or hearing science. Research areas may include, but are not limited to: amplification, pediatric audiology, speech perception, electrophysiology, and aural (re)habilitation. The position offers opportunities to engage in basic, clinical, and translational research through interdisciplinary programs and institutes. It is a nine-month academic appointment for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, or a tenured position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. The position begins August 16, 2017.
Speech and Hearing Science (SHS) is a department in the College of Applied Health Sciences on the main campus in Urbana-Champaign. SHS is dedicated to research, education, and outreach activities that promote health, wellness, and quality of life by improving all aspects of interpersonal communication. Our department offers an undergraduate degree and three graduate degrees—MA, AuD, and PhD. The College of Applied Health Sciences houses two interdisciplinary research institutes, the Center on Health, Aging, and Disability and the Chez Family Foundation Center for Wounded Veterans in Higher Education. College faculty are active in interdisciplinary collaborations with colleagues in the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology, the Cancer Community at Illinois, the Neuroscience Program, and Carle Foundation Hospital, which is located one mile from the University. Currently, the University is also developing the Carle Illinois College of Medicine, designed at the intersection of engineering and medicine.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline. For appointment at the assistant professor level, the potential to develop a funded research program is expected. For appointment at higher ranks, the candidate must have a well-developed research program and a history of funded research.
Conduct and publish research in area of expertise; seek external funding to support research activities and student mentoring; teach undergraduate and graduate courses; advise and direct student research; engage in professional and public service activities; and serve on department, college, and university committees.
