The Department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for several faculty positions at all levels and in all areas of Computer Science. Applicants from both traditional as well as non-traditional and interdisciplinary areas of computer science are encouraged to apply.
Applicants are required to have (or expected to receive) a Ph.D. or equivalent degree. Additional qualifications include the ability to teach effectively at both the graduate and undergraduate levels and the potential to initiate and carry out independent research. Appointments with tenure and higher ranks are available for persons with commensurate research and teaching experience.
The Department of Computer Science at Illinois is one of the leading programs in the United States, granting over 200 B.S. degrees, 100 M.S. degrees, and 60 Ph.D. degrees annually. The department offers an exciting and supportive environment for our 70 faculty members, 600+ graduate students, and 1600+ undergraduate students, which include 46% women in the incoming class for the B.S. degree. Faculty in the department carry out research in a broad spectrum of areas and are supported by world-class facilities, starting with our department’s home in the Siebel Center for Computer Science. Collaborations include the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, the Coordinated Science Laboratory, the Information Trust Institute, the Parallel Computing Institute, the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology, the Institute for Genomic Biology, as well as several industrial centers and programs that foster international collaborations.
Qualified senior candidates may also be considered for tenured full Professor positions as part of the Grainger Engineering Breakthroughs Initiative, which is backed by a $100-million gift from the Grainger Foundation. Over the next few years, more than 35 new endowed professorships and chairs will be established, which will provide incredible opportunities for world-renowned researchers.
