The School of Art + Design at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign invites applications for two full-time Teaching Assistant Professor of Graphic Design appointments with a desired start date of August 16, 2021. The selected candidate will join an exciting and diverse team of faculty engaged in active transformation of design education and practice at the intersection of traditional craft, emerging technologies, and demands for renewal in contemporary social and cultural systems.

Qualifications
Terminal degree (PhD, MFA, MDes, or equivalent) in Visual Communication, Graphic Design, or allied disciplines is required. Demonstrated excellence in teaching Design with three years of experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level is highly desirable; studio teaching experience is preferred. Candidates should possess a demonstrated record of professional accomplishments and be in dialogue with contemporary design discourse, particularly as it relates to practice or pedagogy. An excellent working knowledge of appropriate software is required. Any extensive professional or research expertise such as: web-coding, user experience, motion, illustration, sustainability, service, or active critical practice would be considered an asset. Responsibilities
Teaching Professors at the University of Illinois enjoy paths to promotion, representation by the Non- Tenure Faculty Coalition IFT-AFT, AAUP, voice and vote in shared governance processes, and potential for multi-year contracts based on promotions and performance.
Context
Building upon its longstanding reputation for excellence, the Graphic Design Program (undergraduate) and Design for Responsible Innovation Program (graduate) at the School of Art + Design are responsive
to the changing realities of the contemporary design landscape. Staffed labs for traditional and contemporary media support student and faculty work and include spaces for digital imaging, audiovisual editing, rapid prototyping, darkroom and digital printing. Printmaking facilities are also available including bookbinding, letterpress, and screenprinting. The School offers undergraduate and/or graduate degrees in Art Education, Art History, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, and Studio (New Media, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, and Sculpture).
