School of Social Work
The School of Social Work at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is soliciting part-time adjunct instructor/lecturers for the BSW and MSW program to teach statistics and research courses starting Fall 2017. These courses prepare social workers to understand statistics and be good consumers of social work research. . Courses may be scheduled on-campus in Urbana or online. All instructor/lecturers, including those instructor/lecturers who teach online and blended classes, are required to attend an Adjunct Orientation and Teaching Workshop. These workshops are held once a year at the School of Social Work in Urbana. Participants must pay their own travel expenses. Applicants will be screened by the Adjunct Search Committee to determine whether they are a good fit for our program. If approved by the Adjunct Search Committee they will be placed in our pool of potential adjunct instructor/lecturers. Becoming a member of the pool does not guarantee an appointment, but does ensure consideration for adjunct teaching opportunities based on the needs of the School of Social Work.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Preparation for class (approximately 1-2 hours per week per course)
• Teaching (3 hours per week)
• Grading required coursework
• Office hours (2 hours per week per course)
• Create course syllabus using the master syllabus developed by full-time faculty
• Participate in one required Adjunct Orientation and Teaching Workshop annually and in additional training and mentoring sessions
A Master’s degree, PhD preferred, in statistics, social science or related field. Prior relevant teaching or training experience, including online teaching experience is preferred. Prior research experience is preferred.
